Internet & Computer
We are trying to help the Afghan family get internet and a computer set up in their home. The two oldest kids need internet for their homework and the father needs it for a job search.
I don't know much about the best internet options. Does anyone know about this one?
Someone has already offered to pay for the first few months, but there is room for others to help. If they don't qualify for this internet program, which comes with a modem, does anyone want to buy or donate a modem?
Also, my husband was wanting to donate his computer to them, but every few minutes it turns blue and crashes. Is anyone out there a computer person who would want to try to fix it or have something better we can give them?

Hi Everybody,
I will try to keep this sort of short. :-)
First off, a HUGE thank you for your interest and concern for refugees. We are waist deep with the beautiful Afghan family of 8 -
running errands, getting kids into school, buying uniforms, taking them
to the doctor, eating lots of good food, sitting with them as they
share about their life in Afghanistan and the best part is that smiles and laughter are becoming a regular part of our time together. It is an amazing thing to experience. (and of course, Jessie is taking beautiful photos)
Some
of you have gone through the World Relief Training and gotten your
background checks so you can visit families, others of you want to
donate items, funds, or gather donations - ALL OF THESE ARE NEEDED!
As teams get trained and solidified we will add more families that we will be involved with.
Jessie
has created a Facebook page where we will list needs, how to connect,
and hopefully be more streamlined in this admin stuff. If you've not yet
been invited to the page it is probably because we are not yet official
FB friends.
Please let me know if
you've not received the FB page, any specific ways that you would like
to be involved, the times, days, etc. And please check the page for
specific need updates.
Below is what I will be posting on the page:
Most pressing needs:
- Someone has donated a car - thank you! But they need car insurance.
- Job for the dad - please pray for favor in this
- Lap Top Computer (one is being donated, if we can get it to work, but with five kids in school they need another)
- Modem - the kids MUST have internet for their homework
- Monthly Internet Service - if someone could cover their service for a few months that would be a huge help.
- School uniforms for three kids - I'm in the process of purchasing uniforms and sneakers. Donations are appreciated.
- Rain jackets, coats, vests, socks, light
weight long sleeve tops to layer under their clothes. (Sizes below)
4 year Boy - size 4/5
6 year Boy - size 6/7
SLIM (shoe size 1 - 2)
8 year old Girl - size
8 (shoe size 2 - 3)
13 year old
Girl/Junior - girl size 12 SLIM - or Junior 0. Junior Small tops (shoes size 9
- 10)
15 year old girl -
Junior 6/8. junior medium tops or ladies small. (shoes size 7)
16 year old boy -
waist size 28-30, shirt - youth small
Mom - size 14
petite, Large Tops, shoes 9 wide
Dad - pants 34/32,
medium shirt
For clothes in general, they mainly need a few more winter items.
As a reminder - they
are Muslim Afghans, they dress very conservatively,
Girls - long tops, at least elbow length sleeves, nothing low cut, etc.
the boys wear jeans
the girls do not. the girls do wear tight pants but with a minimum knee length
top/dress. Looser pants with mid thigh tops. Nobody wears shorts.
Thanks again!
Luane
